I have been using Arch for the past few days and for me its not that difficult to use/understand. I kinda had to learn how Linux worked for some education thing. So I already knew how to use certain tools / install packages / run stuff / change settings / etc... Anyways here is some of the stuff I wanted to put down in writing.
I was using windows 11 and found the constant pushing of new features like copilot (which I never agreed to wanting to install...) and other weird actions have left me dissatisfied with how windows may work in next versions. I think if you pay for an OS you shouldn't have to deal with ads. Windows still works perfectly fine for people who don't see this as something that annoys them but I kinda felt like my windows installation was getting bloated. I also think windows is going the route of spoon feeding its users with features. Yes they should improve their features and modernize the OS. Its just time for me to switch to something else that works for me. Windows simply doesn't work for me anymore.
So I see a bunch of arch users say "Read the wiki" and yes while this is a valid response. Sometimes when someone doesn't know what they are doing being able to share your experience on how to read the documentation is better since you get more users interested in Linux. The "read the wiki" people are in the minority I think.
I think I made a few small mistakes while setting all of this up but I think its good enough. Had some Bluetooth issues which I fixed by installing a package called bluez. It fixed the issues I had with the GUI Bluetooth thing I had.
When making mistakes you must understand that whatever happened is your own fault. Never do anything without knowing how to revert it.
Some may know me as a Minecraft enjoyer and I knew I had to see the performance.
First of all I run a RTX 3060 so I am in for a good ride choosing Linux now. Thus far everything runs smoothly and I have 0 performance issues. Minecraft with some performance mods runs at 360 fps on a newly generated world. I Basically just used Sodium to get from 90FPS to 350FPS.
Installing the Minecraft-Launcher was a bit of fun. I basically cloned a git link and had to build it. Found some posts and read the wiki to achieve this result.
I also installed java and got it running fine. This means I can also continue to make my plugins which I do really enjoy doing.
Naaaaah. Maybe. Used to play Valorant which has a anti-cheat that wont work for the Unix kernel. I don't really play Valorant anymore and might just get a SSD with my old copy of windows just for gaming to run them on there. But I wont be missing much lol.
I will keep working on it because fun! but I will need to take some time to get used to the new OS. Nothing major will change but I will make Cryothane for Linux and Windows.
Arch Linux is for nerds. You should use it when you have experience with Linux and you are willing to spend time either listening to others or finding others that are nice enough to teach you. You will need a mindset where you allow yourself to take the time to learn. It took me a day of banging my head against a wall to understand the wiki. Gaming on Linux gets better by the year as more people switch to it.
