My goals:
I want to learn a bunch of things with this project. Game design. World building. Story telling. Etc!!
Heres some info on cryothane!
Basic Story:
In the near future, an experiment with a gas called Cryothane has gone terribly wrong, plunging an entire planet into perpetual cryogenic temperatures. You awaken from cryogenic sleep, disoriented and alone, with a single goal: survival. Your lifeline in this frozen wasteland is a versatile vehicle—your mobile basewhich can be upgraded and customized as you navigate this hostile environment.
I will be releasing small short stories that take place in the world of cryothane. I am planning on adding all the stories into the world. So if you like them you can go out to find them.
Character:
Be who you want to be. Player progression is scaled by what you do. Many games do this, and my inspiration for what I am planning is Project Zomboid. They have a set of skills that improve by performing actions. For example, you can do exercises or carry heavy gear to increase your strength.
World:
It's an open world. You should be able to find all sorts of things, uncover stories scattered across the land, and figure out what happened! The world will be difficult to navigate and will likely be built using multiple maps.
Looting the world:
Due to heavy snowfall, homes have been semi buried. Find creative ways to enter homes! Sometimes cracking a window works. Make sure to check for security systems!
Electricity:
Your suit runs on electricity, but this isn't a limiting factor. You can craft upgrades for your suit to make life easier. Your base also runs on electricity. So keep that juice flowing by charging your vehicle at power stations.
Things to watch out for:
Due to advances in power generation and efficiency, the current power plants continue to generate electricity. Some of these locations harbor life, while others house robotic security. It will be rare to find another person in this world. If you choose to drain a power plant to further your own goals, you might sacrifice the lives of those barely hanging on. Do what you will with the choices you're given.
Tools I use to create the game:
Godot Engine
Aseprite
BlockBench
Godot Engine: Godot is the perfect engine for the type of game I want to make.
Aseprite: I have a history of creating pixel art as a hobby. Aseprite is the perfect tool for the job.
BlockBench: The name says enough. The type of game I want to make is in a low poly pixel art style.
Stories.
I will be posting short stories on Cryothane but also other things I can think of. Stuff I like to think about!
